Pitch & Query

Pitch

Katy’s brother is the last vote needed to pass the 19th Amendment. In the final battle for woman suffrage, she helps the cause, protects her brother, and bolsters him to stand up to the powerful anti suffragists who vow to ruin him.

Query

I’m seeking representation for my young adult historical novel, KATYDID.

August, 1920. The Nineteenth Amendment needs just one more state for ratification, and Tennessee is the nation’s last hope.

Powerful lobbyists and politicians will go to any lengths to prevent woman suffrage. They bribe, trick, and threaten state legislators, including Katy Burn’s older brother Harry, a young state representative from their little regarded district in the eastern hills. When Katy’s family is threatened, Katy is desperate to fight back. She’s always dreamed of making her mark, so she jumps at the chance to spy on the Anti Suffrage movement.

Katy can’t fight the powerful forces alone, especially after Harry declares he’s joining the Antis. To help Harry, and hopefully convince him to vote for ratification, she partners with Black and white suffrage organizations, trading her inside knowledge of Anti strategy for Harry’s protection.

Seeing the Anti’s dirty tricks and hearing the Suff’s passionate pleas motivates Katy to step out of the shadows. She transforms from spy to soldier as she grows to understand her power and what’s worth fighting for. She thwarts an evil plot against her brother, and it’s Katy who inspires Harry to make history and change the lives of women in the entire nation.

KATYDID is a historical fiction based on actual events and is complete at 71,000 words. The novel meshes the fascinating political scheming of The Woman’s Hour with the bright historical telling of Suffs The Musical. The manuscript is out on multiple submission and is available, in part or full, upon request.
